From Daddy: We had a great birthday party today!
He’s been looking forward to it all week, counting down days.
Yesterday, was counting down hours while we were running errands to Party City to get a balloon, Toys R Us to get a controller for the new Wii-U, IHOP to lunch, the Merced and Parkside branches of the library, 7-Eleven for Mommy, and then home (almost 4 hours roundtrip).
Today’s party was a small one, centered on just a few boys and video games. This was his first birthday party intended for a limited audience. As he said on Thursday morning, if he were to have a more expansive party, “What better place than [Yeah-Yeah and Ngen-Ngen’s] house? They always [love celebrating birthdays].”
Also, we had stick-the-star-and-the-Super-Mario-poster.
The capstone was an Mario-themed obstacle course. He had told Mommy that he wanted an obstacle course in the hallway, and he and (mostly) I developed it yesterday morning. Obstacles were jumping over pits, touching the “ice flower” and freezing Piranha Plants (by throwing cotton balls)…

…touching a fire flower and shooting Piranha Plants (by bowling them over with golf balls), bouncing a spike ball into Bowser Jr’s Clown Car (inspired by New Super Mario Wii)…
…using a “Koopa shell” to break down a wall (of masking tape), touching the coin to his bedroom’s door knob, and opening his door!

However, the Birthday Boy realized that it wouldn’t be fun if he just took home the medal, so he graciously bestowed the winning medal upon Cristian!
As he said just before bed tonight about the obstacle course, “It was awesome.”
