The Tooth Shall Set You Free

Under the terms of the Tooth Fairy agreement, one misplaced tooth = one quarter, one tooth under the pillow = two quarters. The missing tooth was just right of the upper front teeth , January 8, 2016, 7:36 a.m.

From Daddy: When I picked him up from after school yesterday, he reported a wiggly tooth.

By dinner, the wiggling was more pronounced. By the time I was reading his bedtime story (Summer of the Sea Serpent), the wiggling was so great that I suspected it might have to be removed before he went to sleep.

We tried to called Granddad a couple of times for a consultation on painless tooth removal, but he was unable to hear on his house phone (it seems that the phone needed to be rebooted).

Granddad removed his third tooth without pain. The boy didn’t mind the blood either, April 5, 2015, 7:48 p.m.

We Google’d a few suggestions, but he was very anxious that the removal would hurt. He was very anxious and had to be strongly coaxed into letting me touch it (I promised that I wouldn’t remove it during exploration) two or three times. After the last exploration, I could see the base of the tooth coming away from his gum. It had to be removed before bed.

Finally, he let me start on the removal when I promised that it would not hurt. He had slowly wiggled it looser, mostly with his tongue but also a bit with his fingers, fractions of millimeters at the time. I gently and slowly scraped the tooth off, and it didn’t hurt him! He was pleased!

Nothing but the Tooth, January 7, 2016, 8:31 p.m.

We announced this to Mommy and we were all proud.

While he spoke this morning in the bathroom that some kids believe that mommies and daddies leave money under pillows, a check under his pillow shortly thereafter provided evidence of a visit from the Tooth Fairy, January 8, 2016, 7:36 a.m.

I acknowledged to him that he was afraid but he claimed that he wasn’t afraid, though his heart was beating and he “had the shivers.” Anyway, I think that he’ll be more easygoing about my trying to remove his loose teeth in the future!

He thought that he could feel the new tooth already coming in.

This morning, he saw evidence of the Tooth Fairy’s visit (click above or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge8XzURSrx4).

Laundry

This evening, he thought that he had run out of clean underpants. I said that I had already planned to do laundry tonight, but he found quite a few (I hope). So he said that I didn’t have to do laundry tonight and that I could do laundry “any time…except NEVER.”

Sleepy Time

Tonight, he stumbled out of the bedtime, groggy and sleepy. He wordlessly moved to his bathroom where I knew there was no cup, so I hurried to the kitchen to retrieve one. When I made it to his bathroom, he was drizzling water over the soap dispenser which he had moved under the faucet.

I gave him the cup and, after his drink, I suggested that he use the bathroom. He generally prefers our bathroom for this purpose, so I offered that he could do so. He walked into his bedroom before I redirected him to our bathroom.

I was explaining this to Mommy but he was quiet. I checked on him and he was naked; I think that he was preparing to shower. I had to remind him to use the bathroom.

Later, he needed help getting re-dressed for bed.
