From Daddy: Here’s the last bits of info on Gilroy Gardens from Sunday. These tidbits didn’t fit the narrative in the last couple of blog posts.
In the beginning or middle of last week (I think), I expressed to Mommy the idea that I had about going to Gilroy Gardens for the weekend. The closure of his swimming school on Saturday due to the closure of Doyle Drive made the weekend an appealing time to make a trip to Gilroy. In my own mind, I was hoping to compensate for missing the trip to Gilroy Gardens at Spring Break due to my being ill.
By Friday, Mommy and I were having doubts due to the heavy traffic in the area that afternoon and the high prices of hotels. By nightfall, traffic had subsided and no web searches revealed any major events in Gilroy.
By Saturday morning, traffic was still light so we resolved to go (and Mommy found a relatively lower price for a hotel)!
Meanwhile, the boy and I went to Best Buy in the morning and made a delivery to Yeah-Yeah to replace his Blu-ray wi-fi streaming box. To test it, we enjoyed watching episode 3 of BattleBots (which the boy and I enjoy) and later enjoyed noodles for lunch with the grandparents.
Then, we picked up Mommy. She drove us to our Cantonese playdate and then returned home for the final preparations and packing.
We did art and then played at the playground.
Then Mommy picked us up and we drove to Gilroy. We had dinner and then checked into our hotel.
He woke early. I got a bit more sleep and then we went to the hotel’s breakfast room around 6:10 a.m. We enjoyed breakfast but unfortunately I somehow messed up the TV just before a news segment about the New Horizons mission to Pluto (I was so upset).
Then we walked around the neighborhood and my camera didn’t do justice to the colors that I saw in the sky.
We walked to The Black Bear Diner across the street because the signage interested him. Inside, they offered to seat us, but I told him that we had already eaten breakfast were checking out the restaurant perhaps for a later date. He then added, “Maybe for dinner,” as he took in and enjoyed the bear-themed decor.
A hour later, he won the Corn Hole game at the radio station booth in Gilroy Gardens.

The above video is he and I yammering about Super Why. I really wanted him to take a photo with them, but he refused. I didn’t want to let the moment pass so I posed with them on Sunday as seen in “Return to Gilroy Gardens.”
Yes, upon his urging, we had dinner at The Black Bear Diner.
