From Daddy: This morning (Thursday), we arrived at school his before school just after 8 a.m. We saw kids in the yard doing calisthenics (as they do on Tuesdays and Thursdays), so I asked if he wanted to join them right away or instead if he preferred to enter the school with me as I signed him in. He studied the situation closely and said that he didn’t see any kinders (kindergarten students), so he chose to follow me into the school…
…where the kinder before-school classroom was empty. I told him that I bet that the kinders were already outside. He countered that he knew that they must be in the multipurpose room (where they have assemblies and such). We walked out to the hallway where the sign-in station is located and found his before-school teacher. She said that the kinders were going to take a walk to dim sum and hurried him to use the restroom. Then she asked me what dim sum he liked; I said only bao.
The program director handed the before school teacher some money. The before school teacher asked the director if she wanted anything, but the director decided that it was too early for her to have grease (!) (she also told me that she was tired and she doesn’t drink coffee; I said that I didn’t either and that I just go through the day sleepy, which got me a laugh).
Outside, I offered to walk with them, but the teacher said that it wasn’t necessary. I watched them walk away with the teacher very much outnumbered!
A mother was walking her son to the school. I turned and saw him pondering the group walking down the hill. “A kinder?” I asked. The mother said yes. I said that the kinders were on a neighborhood walk to dim sum and that he could catch up and join, but he declined.
At home, I asked him about the walk. He said that he didn’t get anything at dim sum because he was not hungry (and nothing looked good to him anyway), but they also walked to Donut World (which is “a building, not a world,” he clarified) where he happily got a donut hole.
