From Daddy: Today, for what I believe was his first time, he spent his own money. The money came from the Chinese New Year laycee that he has so far opened.
We went out today and I suggested in advance that today he would have an opportunity to spend some of the money that he has been carrying with him from place to place in the house over the past day. He made sure to pack the twelve dollars in his backpack “so that we can buy something nice…with money.”
I helped him buy a snack at the Sheng Kee Bakery in Daly City. He wandered around briefly before he excitedly spotted the bo lo bao (pineapple bun). It cost $1.15, so I asked him for a dollar. He dropped his backpack near the middle of the floor in a crowd of people to fish out the bill. We paid (I added fifteen cents from my pocket and also bought myself a snack for $1.35), and found a seat to enjoy.
Later, we went to Home Depot as a family. Mommy took him toward the Garden Center so that he could seek cacti while I paid for various hardware items. When I met them in the Garden Center, he declared with a hint of disappointment, “There are only flowers.” (The cacti were inside.)
