Robert’s Spring Break- Days Nine and Ten

From Jen: I am writing this post on Sunday (day 11 of Spring Break), but I’ll get to what happened today in another post. Friday and Saturday were busy and fun days for us.

Day Nine (Friday 4/13):

We spent the morning at home today. I was doing some cleaning around the house and some work for the auction that is rapidly approaching at Robert’s school. By 2pm, we were on the road to Alameda to pick up our friend Alaina for a sleepover. We got to Alaina’s school, where she was waiting with her sister (and my goddaughter) Maia. We were excited to find out that they were selling FROZEN YOGURT as an after school treat. Auntie Alison treated the kids to frozen yogurt and then we all trekked back to their apartment.

After a little playtime for the kids and chatting for the adults, Robert, Alaina, and I headed back to the city. We stopped at the video store to rent a movie, then came home to order pizza. The kids played, I made popcorn, Brian came home, and we all sat down to enjoy Diary of A Wimpy Kid- Roderick Rules (Alaina’s choice).

After the movie, we got ready for bed and had story time before lights out.

Day Ten (Saturday 4/14):
Brian and the kids got up in the 7 o’clock hour and made pancakes for breakfast. I slept (Thank you, Brian), so there are no pictures of them making and eating pancakes, but Brian assures me it was very fun and very cute.

Now, Saturday was the big day of Alaina’s 6-year-old birthday present of having a tea party at Secret Garden Tea House here in our neighborhood. We have done the same thing for her two older sisters and she was practically vibrating with the excitement of it being her turn. We all got dressed up and had lovely tea (Brian and Jen), hot chocolate (Alaina and Robert) and goodies at the tea party.

Just around the corner from Secret Garden is Brian’s cousin’s magic shop. It’s called Misdirections and they have this cute photo op outside.

After the tea party, we went to Brian’s Grandma’s house. All the grandkids and great-grandkids gathered to wish Grandma/Great-Grandma a happy birthday. If you have not seen Tom’s (Brian’s dad) putting green that he has assembled in the backyard in any of our previous posts, here are two pictures of the kids playing:

The kids also rode bikes:

After taking Alaina home and returning to San Francisco, we had a mellow evening at home. Robert got some time on his keyboard:

I’ll be back soon with tales from Day 11!

Robert’s Spring Break- Days Seven and Eight

From Jen: On Day Seven, Robert and I went about our normal Wednesday business. Every Wednesday, Robert attends a gymnastics class at My Gym in San Francisco. It’s a great place for kids to play and challenge their bodies. We have been going here since he was 3 months old. I forgot to take pictures, but here are some pictures from other days to give you an idea:

Playing in the ball pit

Jumping at circle time

After My Gym, we go down the road to Boston Market. Robert loves their pasta-pasta (macaroni and chese).

After sharing lunch we head over to Safeway (it’s in the same shopping center) to do our weekly grocery trip. I actually got a picture of this, go figure!

Riding on the shopping cart.

We spent the rest of the day at home, but I think all of this Spring Break fun is getting to him. This is the reaction we got to him finding meatloaf, baked potato and veggies on the table for dinner.

Day Eight: Well, it’s actually still in progress as I write this. I have a meeting at Robert’s school (I am part of the committee putting together a fundraiser) at 3. So, we have spent the morning hanging out. We’ve watched a little too much TV, played some golf and done some drawing. He just finished lunch. I am taking him to spend the afternoon with Brian’s parents (Ngen-Ngen and Yeah-Yeah) while I’m at the meeting. Then I am coming home to do some cleaning and take a “Mommy night off”. Brian will join Robert at his parents house after work and then he will be in charge of bath/bedtime while I’m out.

See you tomorrow for Spring Break Day Nine!

Robert’s Spring Break- Days Five and Six

From Jen: Over the last 2 days we have gotten to hang out with Judy and her niece Abby again. And we’ve had so much fun!

Day Five (Monday 4/9):

We spent the day at Julius Khan Playground in the Presidio. It is a great playground for kids Robert’s and Abby’s age. Robert and I brought a basketball and tennis rackets to use on the courts there. After playground time, tennis, lunch and some races on the grass area, we headed over to the baseball diamond where we met a little boy and his grandparents practicing hitting and pitching. They were extremely kind to us and let the kids take a turns with the equipment. After baseball we had some time on the basketball court and a little more playground time before taking our tired selves home.

Watching tennis before we played.

Running races.

Angels in the outfield.

After spending a couple of hours at home, Robert and I dropped in on Free Play at My Gym. Robert loves to play basketball there.

Day Six (Tuesday 4/10):

Today was a very rainy day in the Bay Area. We headed across the Golden Gate Bridge to spend some time at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. It’s a hands-on museum for kids that Robert and I have enjoyed on many occasions. First up, the blocks and the paint wall in the art room:

Judy's painting

After lunch there was some playing in the rain. I’m so sorry that I don’t have video of this. It was so fun!

And the soundtrack for the day was:

Ask Robert to sing it for you sometime!

Up tomorrow: Our usual Wednesday (class at My Gym, Boston Market for lunch, grocery shopping)

Robert’s Spring Break- Day Four

From Jen: Happy Easter everyone! Today we had a fun, if nontraditional, Easter. We started out the morning with a fun egg hunt at home.

Here are pictures and a video of our Easter morning:

What Robert found in his Easter basket when he woke up.

Dancing a little Easter jig.

Brian and Robert went with Ngen-Ngen and Yeah-Yeah to pick up some supplies at Home Depot. Inspired by Robert Tom (Yeah-Yeah) had built a 2 hole putting green in his backyard. They went to Home Depot to get supplies to put in one more hole.

Then they went back to Tom and Gina’s house to put the green together and have some lunch. I joined them after lunch to play a little golf and watch them play the Wii.

We finished the day off with a quick trip to the library (fun) and a huge dinnertime tantrum (not so fun).

Up for tomorrow: Another playdate with Judy and Abby. Check back for pictures.

Note: For some reason, this never posted. I guess I just hit preview after I wrote it on Sunday instead of post. Sorry for the tardiness. I am off to write the post for days 5 and 6 right now.

Robert’s Spring Break- Day Three

From Jen: Today was a fun, low-key, family kind of day. We started out by boiling and coloring Easter eggs. We used this cool spinner that I got at Target. It really limits the mess and completely eliminates the vinegar smell.

Brian took this video of the egg decorating. Pull up a chair and get some popcorn, it’s a long one.

After lunch, we went to San Bruno. Our first stop was Golf Mart to play and to find a rubber tee that Robert could use with his plastic golf set in the house.

After a quick stop at Lowe’s, we went to Tanforan Shopping Center. We each got a little afternoon treat (Robert picked frozen yogurt) and then had some playtime at the indoor play area.

Come on back tomorrow to find out about our Easter Sunday!

Robert’s Spring Break- Day One And Two

From Jen: So Robert’s school is out for Spring Break until April 16th. Because he only goes 3 afternoons a week, he won’t actually return to school until Tuesday, April 17. In an effort not to feel the weight of going back to all day, everyday with a 3 year old, I have devised a fun Spring Break Plan. For the 12 days school is closed, we are going to do at least one fun and/or special thing. Yesterday we saw a puppet show at Stonestown Mall in the morning, but Robert wasn’t into it AT ALL! So, we stopped by Costco for pizza and a few necessities before heading on to Serra Bowl. We bowled for an hour and had a fabulous time. Here’s a video:

For our second day of Spring Break, we joined friends at the San Francisco Zoo. We are members, but had not been in quite a while. The day was cool but sunny and we had a fabulous time with Judy and her niece Abby. We were also joined by Jen and her daughter Kate. I got a couple of not great pictures, so thank you to Judy for sending along the following:

Check back tomorrow for our next adventure. Since it’s Saturday, maybe Daddy will join us!
