From Brian: Robert and I visited the cemetary today to pay respect to Ngen-Ngen’s deceased ancestors and to see family. If you aren’t familiar with this aspect of our culture, please note that this need not be a sad or serious occasion, despite Robert’s dour expression in the photo below.

These trips to the cemetary are a time that bring family together. Even better, it was a beautiful day.

This was Robert’s first time to the cemetary! I was glad to share it with him and I was glad to share Robert with the family. I think it was important that he attended.

Yeah-Yeah and Ngen-Ngen picked us up around 9:30 a.m. We installed the car seat and Robert in it, and then we all drove to pick up Yee-Poo. Then off to the cemetary! However, he fell asleep in the car, so I sat in the car with him while family visited the grave of Robert’s great-great-grandfather.

Then, Robert’s Ngen-Ngen and I switched so I could visit the grave too. Soon enough, Robert woke, so together we paid our respects to his great-great-grandfather and his great-great-grandmother who was adjacent.

Afterward, we climbed a hill to visit more relatives and then we all piled in the car to another cemetary to visit Robert’s great-grandfather and his grand-aunt.

Robert was well-behaved (once he fully woke) and we generally willing to be held by other family. It was a great morning.
